The Mass in B minor | Bach Festival 2023 - jerusalem

As what is already a festival tradition, the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra is bringing together a major work of Johann Sebastian Bach and top-notch performers of baroque music to meet the audience in Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv. 36 performers conducted by Peter Whelan (Irish Baroque Orchestra) and featuring 10 soloist: Keren Motseri from the Netherlands and Tom Ben Ishai, Naomi Burla Levi and Ekaterina Leider (Soprano), Nitzan Alon and Noa Hope (Alto), Richard Resch from Germany and Itamar Hildesheim (Tenor), Nerijus Masevicius from Lithuania and Matan Gendelman (Bass). The ensemble includes strings, Flutes, Oboes and Bassoons, trumpets and Horn, and organ and tympany – producing a sound of grandeur.

One of the pinnacles of western music history, the mass is comprised of 4 sections, evolved through the long-lasting career of the great composer as a personal project, collecting them together in his final years. The piece is inspired by the great masters of polyphony, yet the composer is still choosing earlier composed music of his pen, set originally to other texts and purposes but deeming them right to serve that noble cause. The mass is combining intimate arias in a variety of ensemble settings with grand double choruses and full orchestral powers, in a way that creates a moving active listening, a sound setting to a greater spiritual experience.
