The Divas of Handel – A theatrical concert from London's 18th century opera stages

Since the dawn of its existence, the life behind the opera stage has been saturated with intrigue and rivalry - no less than the operatic plots themselves. The English opera world, in the first half of the 18^th century, provided two affairs that fed the gossip columns of the press and conversations in the salons. One was the rivalry between two important opera composers: G. F. Handel (from Germany) and G. Bononcini (from Italy). Both composers hired two Italian prima donnas for their opera productions: Francesca Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordoni. In our concert we will accompany the two affairs. We will receive a glimpse into the lives of those figures and the ones around them, and hear the beautiful music of both composers sung by two contemporary prima-donnas.
